details
Matter Of The Imagination is an MSU affiliated, local Montana science fiction and fantasy magazine. We are looking for writers and illustrators attending, working at, or surrounding MSU who want to see their work published locally. This is a new project and so we have no estimation for how much we can pay those who’s works are accepted, as it depends entirely on how many interested sponsors we can find. We will try our best to pay as much as we can.
The first edition will be published in late November 2025, and the second will follow in April/May 2026. Both will be released as physical copies for free, as well as viewable in their entirety on this website. Physical copies will likely no longer be free starting on edition #3.
WE ARE INTERESTED IN PUBLISHING:
- Visual artwork (both full page and smaller)
- Short stories under 12,000 words
- Creative science nonfiction
- Relevant photography
- Essays and narrative nonfiction
- Reviews
- Poetry
- Interviews with authors, directors, artists, bookstores, publishers, etc.
- Logo Design
All submissions must be related in some way to Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Science, or a related genre (ie: cosmic horror)
If your work does not fall under these categories but you think we might be interested, submit it anyways and include your reasoning in a note
