Submissions
*MoTI is a Montana based publication; all submissions should be from someone with a connection to Montana.
We use an anonymous system as to not give an advantage to those we have previously worked with. TO SUBMIT YOUR WORK, YOU MUST FILL OUT BOTH OF THESE FORMS (hyperlinked):
You will hear back from us two weeks after submissions close for the next issue.
This is for the sake of anonymity so please DON’T INCLUDE YOUR NAME IN THE FILE UPLOADED in Form One.
Rights and payment: Our payouts will be small. We pay flat rates for art and poetry, and per word for fiction – ranging between 1¢ and 2¢ per word, depending on the current cycle’s budget. Very short fiction will be rounded up to $30. MoTI will gain non-exclusive publishing rights for print, digital, and audio. This means that even after publication you are still free to post the story on your website, query it to other magazines, broadcast it over the radio, sell it online, or whatever else your heart desires. The same applies for the visual art we publish (even the cover art).

We are now accepting submissions for issue 4. Tentative deadline: March 1st
We limit each person to one publication per issue per medium (with the exception of small internal illustrations), but there is no limit to the number of works you can submit. Do not abuse this or we will have to change the rule. If you are rejected, feel free to try again with another work or a revised version of the initial one. If you are both an illustrator and a writer, you can be accepted for both illustration and writing in the same issue. We accept stories up to 10,000 words. Any stories over the limit will not be considered.
“How selective are you?” The acceptance rate for written work in Issue 3 was 23%. We receive more submissions with every cycle, so we expect this % to only decrease.
“Can I submit something that AI helped me write?“ Show some self respect and make your own art. Any submission containing AI work will not be considered, and depending on the degree of use may result in a permanent ban from submitting.
Works that have been previously self-published are fine. We prefer works that have not appeared in other literary magazines. If it has been, please inform us in the extra comments section of the form, and be ready to provide proof that you have the rights to the story.
